F.O.C.U.S. is a citizen-driven organization that taps citizens’ creativity to impact change in Central New York by enabling citizens, organizations, and government to work together to enhance the quality of our lives and our economic future. F.O.C.U.S. engages in research, public policy advocacy, public education and public outreach to promote intelligent, inclusive, sustainable decision-making.
F.O.C.U.S. is a rare, almost unique, organization that values and solicits citizens’ input for use in decision-making.
F.O.C.U.S. engages in the following roles to increase community, organizational, and individual capacity and create the base needed for a sustainable community:
Convener
F.O.C.U.S. brings individuals and groups together to collaborate on common agendas and common goals thus eliminating duplicated efforts and maximizing progress on implementation of the community’s visions and goals.
Communicator
F.O.C.U.S. regularly informs the community regarding the advances made on the goals and barriers that are met along the way. F.O.C.U.S. promotes action through communication, education, and awareness and instills community pride that serves to unite us and strengthen us as a community.
Catalyst
F.O.C.U.S. facilitates groups that have common goals but different strategies for community change and community building. F.O.C.U.S. pursues creative ways for organizations to achieve the goals and bring disparate groups together to develop a plan of action.
Clearinghouse
F.O.C.U.S. identifies current community resources and projects underway, exposes gaps, develops benchmarks and indicators for measuring progress, and submits reports to the community
Champion
F.O.C.U.S. advocates action on the goals with responsible parties and is one of the community’s leading cheerleaders fostering community pride.
“Be+” (Be Positive) is widely used in the area.
Celebrators
F.O.C.U.S. hosts all-inclusive community events to showcase regional assets, new ideas and opportunities in technology, manufacturing, energy, the environment, social entrepreneurship and sustainability.
